Don't be afraid to check out your backyard! - Park #6

Last minute decision today led us to take a road trip to the Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook, Arizona. Now do you get my pun with my title? (afraid...petrified okay it's bad I know)

Ashley and I also took on some guests as Kyle and Max decided to come along for the ride. Charlie was not able to make this trip as he has a hurt leg so we let him rest at home.

Here are a few of the photos:

Fun facts about the Petrified National Park:

1. This area used to be a swamp where dinosaurs lived.

2. How long does it take for wood to become petrified? It depends on the conditions, but basically millions of years.

3. A petrified log is filled with minerals - the red you see is iron, the white is quartz.

Six down, 53 to go!
