Capitol Reef and serious wide open road, seriously - Park #3

On the road again and excited to move on, we headed to Capitol Reef National Park. If you have never made the trek down Highway 24, I recommend a fun mode of transportation such as a sporty, zippy car or motorcycle because it is the definition of "the open road". Seriously!

Here are some of the sights we saw along the way...

We drove through the town of Hanksville (don't blink) and then into the eastern side of Capitol Reef National Park.

First impressions were really amazing as you wind around these curvy roads that are hugged by enormous mountains of rock in a sunset of beautiful colors.

We decided to stop and do a hike up to Hickman Bridge. It was an awesome hike! This was the first time we actually got to hike under an arch formation. So glad we did this one!

After the hike we hurried over to the visitor center so I could pick up my patch. The ranger there asked us if we had seen the petroglyphs down the street which we hadn't, so went back to go check it out before heading over to Bryce.

Apparently, back in the 1950s part of the petroglyph wall collapsed, but it was still very cool to see...

We could have driven through more of Capitol Reef, but Ashley and I decided to save it for another trip and move onto Bryce as we had a hotel reservation there next to the park that night.

The next decision however ended up making the rest of the day quite memorable....
